听力材料(Text 1)
M:I have a big family with lots of relatives. What about you?
W:I have a sister. She was born in 1982. She is 2 years younger than I.
(Text 2)
M:I’m sure that John’s new apartment is somewhere nearby, but I don’t kn ow exactly where it is.
W:As a matter of fact, it is just two blocks away from his old house. I’m sure we can get there soon.
(Text 3)
M:Will you come to the beach and have a picnic on Saturday?
W:No, I can’t bear the heat out there.
(Text 4)
M: I’m filling out the report. So, you were driving along Bay Avenue?
W: Yeah. I was driving along Bay. And suddenly, that man stopped real fast. I couldn’t stop in time.
(Text 5)
W:What do you think would be a reasonable price of a new PC?
M:You’re asking the wrong person.
(Text 6)
M:Come in please. What can I do for you?
W:I want to report a case, officer. On my way home from the bank, a man came at me from nowhere, and struck me on my head. My handbag was stolen.
M:What was the man like?
W:Well, he was tall and thin. And his hair was brown and curly. It was about medium-length.
M:What was he wearing?
W:He had on a blue shirt and brown trousers.
M:Just one more question. His age … how old was he?
W:I guess he was between thirty and thirty-five years old.
M:OK. Thank you for the information. I’m sure we’ll catch him soon.
(Text 7)
M:Mum, my old bicycle needs to be repaired again.
W:Well then, why don’t you just think of buying a new one?
M:You know, I’d really like to buy one of those mountain bikes. But they cost too much. At least $300.
W:But what’s so special about a mountain bike? Why do you have to have one of those? There aren’t any mountains around here. Isn’t a common bike cheaper?
M:Yes. You can also get good ones for about $150.
W:Well, that sounds reasonable. If you can save $100, I’ll give you the rest. That way you’ll be riding a new bike in a few months. Go and get your old one repaired.
M:Thanks, Mum. I suppose I’ll just have to ride my old bike for a little longer.
(Text 8)
M:Would you please take my clothes to the cleaner’s? I left them in my car. And where is my coffee?
W:I’ve worked for you too long without making any complaints. I remember I told you I was hired to do office work, not to deal with personal matters for you. Give me a rest.
M:I’m a busy man. Anyway that you can make my life easier makes my time more productive.
W:I guess I feel the same way. I like to be productive, too. You need to hire a servant to do your little personal jobs so I can get my work done.
M:I’m sorry you feel that way, but I don’t think I’m going to change in the near future. If you do as you just said, I probably wouldn’t need you.
(Text 9)
M:How many people are coming to the party?
W:Well, I invited 18 but only 11 are coming now.
M:What are you going to cook?
W:We’re having fish with lemon sauce then ice cream made with apples from the garden, and coffee afterwards.
M:Sounds interesting. Have you got some good music?
W:My CD player isn’t working — but my tape recorder is fine if I can find some tapes. Joan’s going to bring her guitar.
M:What present have you bought Joan? It’s her birthday, isn’t it?
W:It’s Emma’s. She’s Joan’s sister. She’s 21. She wanted a camera but I didn’t have enough money so I’ve got her a video about football — she plays for the college team now.
M:Well, I’m sure it will be a great evening. What time will the party start?
W:Emma has classes until 8:00. I’ve asked everyone to come at half past and we’ll eat about 9:30. Don’t be late.
(Text 10)
W:I’m looking for a small apartment or maybe a small house. We are talking about 60 square meters, nothing big. I only need two bedrooms, one for me and the other for guests. One bathroom will do, and to be honest, I hardly ever cook so the kitchen doesn’t have to be very big.
It’s really important that I don’t want to be looking at just another apartment block. In front of a park would be perfect but a top floor apartment would do fine. Then I would like it to be near a transport system because I don’t have a car and use public transportation all the time. I’m single and have no kids so schools are not important. And there is just one other thing — I do a lot of work on the Internet and so I would need a broadband Internet connection. Do you think you have anything that matches my requirements?
